Project #4- Vincent Van Gogh Activity




We created this project based off of Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night. This project had many steps to it. First, we used different colors of tissue paper and glued it down with a gel medium onto the black background to give the illusion of a sky. The gel medium allowed us to draw lines or swirls with oil pastels or sharpies the next day. I used white oil pastels to draw dotted lines across the blue tissue paper. After adding more to our background, we created a landscape. The landscape could be anything, but I created the skyline of a city.

Description- For our introduction, we measured our feet and had to use at least three different mediums to describe ourselves and our lives. I used the white construction paper and the purple dry erase marker to represent a white board at a school (purple marker to represent on the my high school colors) because I am an elementary education major. The school pop-up stickers also represent my hopes in being an elementary teacher. The ticket stub represents my job at the movie theater. The sunflower stickers represent that I grew up on a farm. The band, basketball, and volleyball stickers represent the activities I was involved in while in high school. The coffee sticker and the Dove chocolate wrapper represent the two things in this world that I cannot live without, coffee and dark chocolate. Project #3- The Dot

We read the story, “The Dot”, which was a fun story that one could read to their younger elementary students to encourage creativity. The story was about a teacher that framed a picture of a single dot on a paper that a student had created. This inspired the student to make many more projects based off of the idea of the dot.              We created our own dots using coffee filters and different types of media. We used crayons, oil pastels, water color paints, and water color crayons. All of the different medias reacted differently with water. The water colors and the markers bled when wet, but the crayons and oil pastels repelled the water. Project #2- Elements and Principles

Project #2 For this project, we were to take pictures of our surroundings that represent the different elements and principles that we learned about in class. Here are five of the pictures from this project: 1. This is a picture that represents emphasis. Emphasis creates dominance and focus, where the eye is drawn to one specific part of the photo. I used Keurig coffee pods to represent this, where the emphasis is on the green pod in the middle because it is different than all of the other pods. 2. This picture represents texture. Texture appeals to the sense of touch. This is a picture of a basket in my apartment. You can imagine by looking at the picture how it would feel to touch the basket.  3. This picture represents movement. Movement directs viewers through an artwork, creating paths for viewers to follow using lines, edges, shapes and colors.
